Sometime in the 1970s before he died in 1982, my father (George
Lee Sye Snr.) wrote a poem about the last Anzac. As it turned out
Alexander William (Alec) Campbell was that final surviving
Australian participant of the First World War’s Gallipoli campaign.
With his passing in 2002, that last living link between Australia
and the Gallipoli story was broken.
Here is a fitting and poetic tribute to this man, and to all ANZACS
and service men and women of Australia and New Zealand.
